Apparel Quality Control
Apparel quality control starts with an agreed specification, an approved sample and clear inspection checkpoints. STX Garment supports custom apparel projects through development, sampling and production at our manufacturing base in Humen, Dongguan, China. This guide explains what buyers should confirm before production and what to review before shipment.

Apparel Quality Control: Agree on Standards Before Bulk
Use the final tech pack and approved pre-production sample as the reference. Confirm fabric composition, weight, color, construction, measurements and tolerances, artwork placement, labels and packing. A reference image alone cannot define all acceptance criteria.
- Measurements: supply a size chart, points of measurement and agreed tolerances for each style.
- Appearance: confirm color references, print or embroidery artwork, placement and workmanship expectations.
- Performance: identify any shrinkage, colorfastness, durability or market-specific testing requirements before quotation. Testing scope and third-party services must be agreed for the project.
- Inspection plan: agree on checkpoints, defect classifications, sampling method and the process for resolving nonconforming items.
Apparel Quality Control Checkpoints
1. Incoming fabric and materials
Review incoming fabric, trims and accessories against the approved specification. Check relevant color, fabric appearance, quantity and accessory details before cutting. Discuss material testing needs with the team during fabric development and trim selection.
2. Cutting and inline sewing checks
Review cut components, sewing construction, seam appearance and key measurements while the order is in progress. Early checks help identify issues before they affect the remaining production. Technical requirements should follow the approved sample and tech pack.
3. Decoration and semi-finished review
Check artwork scale, placement, color and appearance for printing, embroidery or other garment decoration. Review the agreed decoration sample before applying the process across the order.
4. Finished garment inspection
Review finished garments for measurements, sewing workmanship, decoration, labels, stains and visible defects. Record issues against the agreed criteria, then confirm correction and rechecking where required.
5. Packing and shipment readiness
Confirm quantities by style, color and size; label and barcode requirements; folding, bagging and carton instructions; and shipping marks. Review private label and packaging requirements before the order is packed.
Apparel Quality Control: Inspection and Packing References
Existing images from our factory page illustrate garment review and packing stages. Confirm the inspection scope and project records before shipment.

Request dated project photos and an inspection record for the actual order. Workshop photos alone do not show an order has passed inspection.
Apparel Quality Control: What to Request in the Inspection Record
- Order reference, style, color, size breakdown and inspected quantity.
- Measurement results and the approved specification used for comparison.
- Photos of representative garments, decoration, labels and packing, with issue photos where applicable.
- Defect findings, corrective actions and the result of any recheck.
- Confirmation of any agreed external inspection or laboratory testing.
For background on acceptance sampling, see the ISO 2859-1 official overview. Agree the applicable method, inspection level, defect categories and acceptance limits for your project. This reference does not establish STX certification or a default inspection plan for every order.
Apparel Quality Control and Production Planning
Sample approval, material confirmation and change control are connected. Changes to fabric, artwork, measurements or packing after approval may affect the inspection reference, cost and schedule. See our sample development process, bulk production workflow and supply chain management overview.
Apparel Quality Control Questions
Can I arrange an independent inspection?
Include the inspection provider, timing, scope and release requirements in your inquiry so access and scheduling can be confirmed before production.
Does sample approval replace final inspection?
No. The approved sample establishes a reference; production and final checks assess the garments made against that reference and the agreed specifications.
What should I send for a quality-focused quotation?
Send the tech pack, size chart and tolerances, target quantity, fabric and decoration details, packing instructions, intended market and any inspection or testing requirements.
