Split color jacket: development brief
Develop a split color jacket with one white side and one black side divided by a full front zipper. A black folded collar, horizontal zipped chest pockets and contrasting sleeve-line details define the reference. Ribbed cuffs and a ribbed lower band shape the compact body.
Specify the black-and-white panel map across front, back and sleeves for your own version. The images do not verify canvas construction, cotton content or fabric weight. Approve sourced materials and colorfastness together, especially where dark panels meet white fabric.
Confirm the final composition, weight, measurements and production methods through an approved specification and physical sample. Use original or authorized artwork for your own collection.
Split color jacket: sample checkpoints
| Development item | What to approve |
|---|---|
| Fabric development | Confirm fiber composition, fabric structure, target weight, hand feel and shrinkage requirements. |
| Pattern and fit | Body width and length, neckline, shoulder, sleeves or armholes, hem and grading tolerances. |
| Panels and seam details | Provide pattern pieces and placement measurements. Confirm seam construction, alignment, contrast colors and the behavior of adjoining fabrics after washing. |
| Trims and construction | Confirm closure, pocket, drawcord, rib or lining details as applicable in the tech pack. Check component operation, attachment and compatibility with the proposed finish. |
| Private labels and packing | Confirm label placement, buyer-approved care information, hangtags, size identifiers and packing instructions. |
Collection direction and contrast
GQ’s 2026 color-blocking report explores contrasting colors. This monochrome reference offers a separate interpretation of contrast: divide the garment into clear light and dark zones, then keep the zipper and pocket layout balanced.
From reference to production
- Send your tech pack, measurement chart, artwork or detail references and quantity by style, color and size.
- Review sourcing and production feasibility, sample requirements and what the quote includes.
- Approve fit, construction, decoration and agreed wash checks on a physical sample.
- Finalize the specification, quality criteria, packaging, schedule and delivery terms before bulk production.

Split color jacket: buyer questions
Can the split color jacket use other colors?
Provide a complete panel map and swatches for each color. Define the collar, sleeve-line, cuff and hem treatment as well as the front halves, then approve the full garment sample.
How are the two sides kept balanced at the zipper?
Specify the center line, pocket heights and finished panel widths. Check zipper alignment, seam tension and front symmetry with the jacket both open and closed.
Are the chest zippers functional pockets?
Confirm pocket-bag construction, opening length and intended capacity in the tech pack. The visible zippers show the design position but do not establish usable pocket dimensions.
Is this heavyweight cotton canvas or twill?
The photos do not confirm weave, fiber content or GSM. Compare sourced swatches for structure, weight and drape, then approve the fit with the intended lining if any.
How do we avoid black color transfer onto white panels?
Agree colorfastness and care checks for the selected fabrics, rib and trims before bulk approval. Inspect staining at joins, rubbing transfer, shrinkage differences and zipper distortion using the agreed procedure.
What determines MOQ, cost and delivery time?
Two-color sourcing, panel work, sleeve details, chest pocket construction, zippers, rib quantities, size breakdown and packing affect the quote. Confirm sample scope and bulk timing.
